ADAPTING TO CHANGE OR BEING THE CHANGE ITSELF?

Güncelleme tarihi: 13 Oca

One concept I frequently encounter in articles, whether related to social life, corporate management, or various other fields, is the concept of change. I can even see the idea that "the only constant is change" itself beginning to change. In numerous sources, we come across phrases like adapting to change, being part of change, and being open to change. Seeing these popular expressions so often, I began questioning not only what these frequently repeated concepts are trying to convey but also how accurately they are expressed.

Here’s how I see it:

The phrase adapting to change seems, in my opinion, to create a sense of inadequacy in individuals (or institutions). Being forced to adapt to an ongoing process sounds like sacrificing some degree of originality, doesn’t it? And just because the majority is heading down a certain path, does it necessarily make that path the right one?

Another phrase is being part of change. This expression, in fact, aligns with the message implied by the previous one. "Be part of change"—in other words, conform to it! Don’t question it! "Look, everything is changing," and "Don’t overthink it; just go with the flow." Isn’t that what it suggests?

The expression that seems most reasonable and humble to me is being open to change. Yes, in professional and social life, observing what’s happening, exploring new approaches, new perspectives, new communication techniques, even new nutrition, diet, or exercise methods, and examining the positive and negative outcomes these ideas bring forth, all seem quite sensible to me.

In my opinion, if an individual or institution notices something that isn’t working, they should first possess the ability to generate their own solutions. Instead of immediately switching to methods imposed on them under the guise of change, they should pause, reflect within their own context, and then take action.

Life has no universal recipe. Do you think it’s a utopian dream to try to create a world of individuals raised not to simply adapt to changing conditions but to become the very change itself—individuals who are not just part of change but also pioneers of it?

Let’s not get stuck in the moldy aspects of tradition, nor thoughtlessly get swept away by the populist, fast, and imposed aspects of change.

Let’s be the change. Let’s think, question, and ask!
